"Port Orchard's La Garmache Catering is a winner, at least according to the judges at KitsaParty. The business won Best in Catering Display and Best in Catering Cuisine at the event on Oct. 14 in Silverdale. Seafood-stuffed mushrooms, three-bean pate, and a pesto torte were some of the featured elements to earn the business their prize. This is La Garmache's second year entering the competition, but its first year walking away with an award. Run by sisters and business partners Betsy Jolliffe and Laura Smythe, La Garmanche is not only a catering business, but also a cafe. Located for the past three years at 1327 Bay Street, the cafe is open Tuesday through Friday and mainly serves lunch, including soups, sandwiches, and salads. We use a lot of fresh ingredients and a lot of thought goes into what we put on the table, said Jolliffe. However, the sisters' most prosperous effort is the catering business, which they have been running for 13 years. We do so much catering, said Jolliffe, we have to close the cafe on the weekends. There are many different menus to choose from, as well as catering packages, and custom menus designed for the customer to choose their own items. It makes it so they get what they want, explained Jolliffe.La Garmanche caters for all kinds of events, including weddings, Christmas parties, funerals, service organizations - pretty much everything, Joliffe said. The cuisine generally holds a Pacific Northwest theme. According to Jolliffe, My sister and I were born and raised in the Northwest, and we've tried to stay with that style. It includes lot of seafood.Parties of any size are welcome, and rates start at $5 per person. The sisters use the kitchen of La Garmanche Cafe in their catering work and proclaim off-site catering, where the food is cooked at one place and taken to another, as their specialty. Customers also have the option of a banquet room. The room is available for rental for La Garmanche catered events. It is on the waterfront and has a nice deck over the water, said Jolliffe. The room seats roughly 120 people and is suggested for weddings or other types of larger gatherings. The banquet room is located underneath the Happy Teriyaki restaurant on Bay Street. With all of these accommadating features, it can easily be assumed that business is good at La Garmanche. It's doing really well, said Jolliffe. I think we've filled a niche in the Kitsap area for a good caterer. Port Orchard's been really good to us. "
