With the holiday season approaching, Port Orchard residents may be thinking about what gifts they want to give their friends and relatives. A push in the right direction may come in the form of In the Company of Angels, a new business located just off Bay Street on Harrison Avenue.

In the Company of Angels features items that express the overall theme of angels and fairies intermittent with traditional gift items.

“It’s not as whimsical,” said owner Lisa Viscomi-Malner to explain her choice of theme. “The fairies give it a sense of magical delight and wonder. The angels feed that spiritual grounding to life. It’s an inspirational theme.”

Originally from southern California, Viscomi-Malner has had the idea for a gift boutique for nearly eight years now. The name In the Company of Angels comes from Viscomi-Malner and her husband’s feelings about children. The couple suffered the loss of prematurely born twin sons in 1992.

“I wanted to honor their memories,” said Viscomi-Malner of the name of her business. “It’s also to honor our (two) children here. My way of greeting is to be surrounded by angels. This is my lifestyle.”

The 500-square-foot store is packed with a multitude of items. The angel line features Roman Seraphim Angels, Pipka Earth Angels, Demdaco Willow Tree Angels, and Art to Wear angel pins. Fairy line names include Flower Fairies by Cecily Mary Barker, Baby Fairies by Valerie Tabor-Smith, and The Fairy Collection by Dezine.

Another highlight of In the Company of Angels is the children’s clothing, which comes in sizes from newborn to 14-16 and varies along with the season. The apparel line features Hartstrings (which depicts the message “Children are a gift tied with Hartstrings” on tags), Mulberribush shoes, and Original Rock Candy socks.

“It’s very ornate, very good quality clothing,” said Lisa Viscomi-Malner, who mentioned that her children’s attire is suitable for holiday events or portrait wear. “It’ll be very exciting during the holidays.”

In the Company of Angels also offers themed items including greeting cards, figurines, books, magnets, candy, mugs, stationary, pens, umbrellas, linens, bath accessories, and other collectibles.

“We’re getting more and more inventory each day,” said Viscomi-Malner. “I’m trying to keep a momentum of constant change growing from inside the shop.”

Special features include a children’s play place (complete with crayons, puzzles, books and toys), gift certificates, complimentary coffee and tea service, and complimentary gift wrapping.

The business will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 27 with a 20 percent storewide sale (which will continue through Nov. 9), door prizes, and free gifts to the first 100 children.

“I’m praying that Port Orchard is ready for this,” said Viscomi-Malner. “I want to be known as a really quality gift shop.”
