"In the festive debris of holiday treats and lazy days of vacation, the new year brings resolutions, many of being healthier and more fit. The opportunity for a head start on getting into shape comes to Port Orchard in the form of Westcoast Fitness, a brand-new fitness club located on Lund Avenue.Manager Leslie Thompson agrees wholeheartedly. The better you take care of yourself, the better you function, said Thompson. And that leads to a healthier, happier life! The business, which is part of the Bethel Place shopping complex, is set to open no later than the end of January. The focus of Westcoast Fitness is based upon not only one, but all five areas of fitness. A lot of people think it's just aerobics, said Leslie Thompson. It's so much more effective to concentrate on all of the areas.Thompson is a transplant from San Diego who got interested in physical fitness at a young age.I was in sports all through junior high and high school, said Thompson. When I moved up here, I had a hard time with the climate change, and a friend turned me onto working out indoors with a personal trainer. I got obsessed! In addition to being the manager at Westcoast Fitness, Leslie Thompson is also a certified personal trainer for the facility. Although as of yet the number of employees the business will have is unknown, Thompson says that the staff will be well-educated in a broad range of fitness-themed subjects.People can come in and talk with personal trainers, do body fat checks, said Thompson. There's a nutrition program available, and our staff will be well-versed on supplementation. Anybody who needs a program can definitely come in and get help. Those patrons who just want a place to work out are also in luck due to all of the equipment that Westcoast Fitness has. With recognizable brand names such as Lifefitness (a strength and cardiovascular machine), Flex (a strength machine), Stairmaster (strength machine) and Hammerstrength (a plate-loaded machine), and other equipment such as freeweights and treadmills, the business should have some attraction for those who want to get into better shape. The more education and knowledge about fitness, the more productive you can be, said Thompson.Membership for Westcoast Fitness is pretty basic, according to Leslie Thompson. We're not trying to get all fancy, she said. The cost to belong to the club is on a month to month basis, with a one-time initiation fee, and customers also have the option to pay for an entire year's membership, which diminishes the extra fee. Westcoast Fitness is for people ages 13 and above, but for a minimal fee also leaves the option of a kids club for parents who can't work out without having their little ones tag along. Our kids club will be fully equipped, said Thompson. We will have TV, videos, coloring and other activities. The kids club will be staffed and will be short-term, usually in four or five hour blocks. It's a place for kids to play while their parents are working out and getting healthy, said Leslie Thompson.Other features of Westcoast Fitness include locker and shower facilities, mirrors, TV's hanging from the ceiling and radios. It's pretty high-tech, said Thompson. Future plans for the business include weight-circuit training, self-defense classes, and a toning program for senior citizens. We've had such an awesome reaction from the town, said Leslie Thompson. I can't wait to meet and greet everybody. For more information, call 874-2818, or e-mail the business at firstname.lastname@example.org. "
