Wood furniture store finds home in SK Mall

Having to spend $10,000 a month for overhead in Silverdale, Deborah Dreher and her husband Jesse Lively actively sought a new location for their Classic Woods Furniture store.

After two years in Silverdale the couple found a perfect fit last March in the lower level of the South Kitsap Mall.

“We weren’t in a great location,” Dreher said. “We started looking around and this space happened to be open.”

The decision to move came with a mighty big concession, too.

The Silverdale store was 8,400 square feet compared to the 2,100 square feet the SK store now occupies.

“We downsized, but we have a storage warehouse unit with items in stock,” she said. “We went from having 15 beds on display to one.”

Dreher said the smaller space hasn’t dwindled business though.

“We’re selling about the same percentage of items as with our other store,” she said.

Dreher said there are two main selling points to Classic Woods Furniture.

First, it’s the only true furniture store in Port Orchard.

“We want people in the south end to not have to go to Silverdale,” she said.

Second, all of the furniture is made from quality manufacturers. The store carries all-wood furniture and does not sell particle board furniture.

The furniture is either had hand- or spray-finished.

“We provide quality that lasts forever,” Dreher said. “We buy from manufacturers who make quality-crafted furniture.”

The store also carries bedroom, dining room, office entertainment, and occasional furniture such as coffee tables.

Customers can also get their hands on leather-upholstered recliners, gifts, glassware, and other accessories.

Dreher, an art major in college, also has her artwork on display for sale.

“They are my original paintings,” she said. “All are original pastels.”

Dreher said all of the furniture is made from oaks and pines, with some in alder and cherry.

Dreher said maple has been requested before and she has looked in catalogs for the heavy wood material.

Dreher emphasized how convenient it is for South Kitsap shoppers to find what they need without having to travel north or south.

“We have quality furniture at a fair price,” she said. “You don’t have to go to Silverdale to find what you need. You can go get coffee (next door), come in, and see what we have.”
