Meeting presents information about location filming opportunities

Opportunity is knocking and Washington Filmworks is at Kitsap County’s door.

The Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce and Washington Filmworks will present an information session about what film, commercial and video producers seek for locations sites, props and location assistance services during a Kitsap County all-chamber event from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Kiana Lodge, 14976 Sandy Hook Rd. NE, Poulsbo.

According to Chris Daniel, executive director of the Port Orchard Chamber, the meeting is to let individuals, groups and businesses learn how to put their community, property or small business on “Hollywood’s Map.”

“Sleepless in Seattle” T-Shirts are in most gift shop at SeaTac Airport and that tourists still visit Roslyn to view film sets from the iconic television show, “Northern Exposure,” Daniel said.

Washington Filmworks is the legislatively commissioned organization that manages the Washington state film and production incentive programs. The group’s focus is to create economic development opportunities throughout the state for local and national filmmakers.

“The average commercial approved through Washington Filmworks spends an estimated $250,000 in a local community in less than a week,” said Daniel. “Washington Filmworks believes Kitsap County can benefit from the film industry as well and wants to let you know how to get your community noticed.”

Daniel said property owners, small businesses, city, county and Tribal government, video and film industry companies, owners of unique and unusual props and those interested in the film industry are invited to attend.

She said space is limited and interested person should register at http://isyourbusinessastar.brownpapertickets.com.

There will be hors d'oeuvre and refreshments provided at the meeting.
