Donna Etchey, Sound Publishing’s regional advertising director in Kitsap County, announced the addition of Billi Jean Gurnsey as advertising manager of the Port Orchard Independent.

Gurnsey comes to Sound Publishing with more than 20 years in media sales and management including newspaper, radio, magazine and spot cable TV advertising. She also has experience in retail sales and sales management.

Etchey said Gurnsey’s retail experience, coupled with her multimedia background, gives her a “unique insight for helping customers develop their marketing strategy.”

“I’ve known and respected Billi Jean for many years. I am excited to have her part of our South Kitsap team,” said Lori Maxim, vice president and regional publisher of Sound’s Kitsap County papers.

Gurnsey has lived and worked in South Kitsap since 1995, building relationships with local businesses and the community. She has been involved in many local organizations, including the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce, Port Orchard Bay Street Association, Fathoms o’ Fun, Soroptimist International of Port Orchard, United Way and Puget Sound Naval Bases Association.

She served as president of the Chamber and Soroptimist, and was Port Orchard’s Woman of the Year in 2012.
