Best of SK award nominations open

The Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce and the Port Orchard Independent has announced the second annual Best of SK Awards, that give special notice to the top local businesses in a variety of categories.

“We were very pleased with the results of the first year of the program,” said Chamber Executive Director Coreen Haydock Johnson. “There was a tremendous response from both businesses and the public.”

The awards will be presented in five categories; service, shopping, nightlife, food, places and schools. Winners will be selected in several specific subcategories, with the top three choices recognized with a certificate.

A bonus category, the Best Thing About South Kitsap, is also included.

Ballots will be included in the next the Port Orchard Independent for six weeks, beginning March 27. They are also available on the Chamber of Commerce and Port Orchard Independent Websites and offices and at Printing Services, 3480 Bethel Road in Port Orchard.

Ballots must be physically returned to the Chamber office at 1014 Bay St by May 5th. Only one ballot per person will be accepted, but everyone who fills out a ballot will be entered into a drawing for over $400 in prizes.

Results will be announced at the Port Orchard Chamber Business Showcase, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 28 at the Port Orchard Armory on Mile Hill Road. The event doubles as the Chamber’s May Business After Hours event, and will include booths featuring several local businesses. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.

Businesses can now register to exhibit at the showcase, which will cost $100 for chamber members and $200 for non chamber members. The Showcase registration form is available at the chamber office or online at For more information contact the Port Orchard Chamber at 360-876-3505 or
