Food bank seeks sponsors for providing holiday turkeys
October 21, 2011 · Updated 3:43 PM
Along with the number of people in need remaining high, turkey prices have gone up this year, prompting South Kitsap Helpline Food Bank to try a new sponsorship approach to be able to provide food to the hungry in our community this holiday season.
A $15 donation to South Kitsap Helpline can provide a turkey for a local family at Thanksgiving through the food bank. A $30 donation will ensure that a family in need will receive a turkey to cook for their holiday meals for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Through the food bank in 2010, more than 3,218 local children, adults and seniors received meals for Thanksgiving. Another 3,765 received meals for Christmas.
The food bank anticipates distributing more than 1,000 full turkey meal dinners to families for each holiday in 2011.
