Church hosts nativity event this weekend

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold its fifth annual Christ is Born Nativity Event this weekend.

This free community event will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday, and from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 3877 SE Mullenix Road, across the street from Mullenix Ridge Elementary School.

This event features nativities from cultures all over the world. For families with with young children there will be activities including dressing up in shepherd’s clothing, re-enacting the manger scene, and getting their picture taken.

 

Bluegrass concert a Toys for Tots benefit

There will be a Toys for Tots Bluegrass Concert and Toy Drive on Dec. 10 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Park Vista Retirement center, 2944 SE Lund Ave. in Port Orchard.

The concert will feature the South Puget Sound band Runaway Train, with the brother-sister duo of Kaiti and Luke Dewhirst opening the show. Admission is a new toy donation for Toys for Tots.

 

Christian women’s group hosts lunch

The Port Orchard Christian Women’s Connection will hold its Christmas luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Dec. 13 at the group’s new location at First Christian Church, 4885 SW Hovde Road.

The program will feature Dawn Gallagher from “Creative Cousin” and Barb Tarbell of Port Orchard speaking about “Choosing a Gift Fit for a King.”

Cost is $14 for the buffet lunch, and reservations should be made by Dec. 8

Author to speak at caregivers conference

The Kitsap County Division of Aging & Long Term Care will host a Caregiver Support Conference on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kitsap Conference Center, 100 Washington Ave. in Bremerton.

The keynote speaker will be renowned author Gail Sheehy, whose most recent book is “Passages in Caregiving: The Most Memorable Passage in Your Life.”

Margarita Suarez, Shelly Zylstra and Kitsap County Commissioner Charlotte Garrido will also speak.
