Church hosts Longest Night Service for reflection during stressful season

December 20, 2011 · Updated 9:05 AM

The sixth annual Longest Night Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Bede Episcopal Church, 1578 Lider Road SE in Port Orchard. The service is presented by the Hope Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King, to offer an evening of healing and reflection. The service, which includes Scripture, songs and prayer, is an opportunity for individuals and families to pause briefly from the stresses of the holiday season, and find the joy in the true reason for the Christmas celebration. The idea for the service came when the group realized the sense of hopelessness that some people feel, especially at this time of year.

There will also be a children’s program from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall for youngsters age 3 to 13, featuring model HO train stations coordinated with Scriptures, craft activities and snacks.

For more information, contact the church at (360) 876-1182 or stbedes@telebyte.com, or visit www.stbedeschurch.org.
