Requests for information about the city has increased since Debbie Macomber’s “Cedar Cove” television series first aired July 20.

The series is based on Macomber’s book series, which is set in Port Orchard. She used the fictional name of Cedar Cove in her books.

The Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce reported an increase of inquiries about the city.

“We’ve had at least three times as many requests for visitor packets and information about the city and the area,” said Chris Daniel, Chamber executive director. “Since the series began, we’ve noticed we are getting more calls, also.”

Daniel said sometimes she has to explain that the television series is filmed in Canada and not in Port Orchard.

She said some people wanted information about Cedar Cove Inn, and on relocating or tourism.

“It’s about half and half between people wanting information about relocating or just to come visit,” Daniel said.

The Cedar Cove Inn also has noticed an increase in calls and emails.

Co-owner Gil Michael said he has been receiving email requests about the inn and city.

“We have seen between a 40 and 50 percent increase in emails and calls pertaining to Debbie,” Michael said.

He also noted about a 20 percent increase in bookings related to Macomber.

According to TV Media Insight, the first show drew 2.6 millions viewers and finished first in its air time for cable television. The show also was the No. 1 ad-supported cable movie of the week of July 14-20.

Cedar Cove is broadcasted at 5 p.m. on Saturdays on the Hallmark Channel. The series is based on Macomber’s book series and features Andie MacDowell playing Judge Olivia Lockhart.

Lockhart is considered the community's guiding light in the picturesque, coastal town of Cedar Cove.

But like everyone else, Olivia fights the uphill battle of balancing career with family and finding love, all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home.

Also appearing in the series is Bruce Boxleitner, Dylan Neal, Terry Rothery and Barbara Niven.
