Level 3 sex offender living in South Kitsap
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office released information that a level 3 sex offender has registered and is living in the 6000 block of Clover Valley Road SW in South Kitsap.
Arnold Jeffery Vahey, 58, was convicted of second-degree rape in 1988 for sexually assaulting and strangling a 17-year-old girl. He also has convictions for burglaries and drug offenses, according to court documents.
While in prison for the rape conviction, he declined to participate in sex offender treatment.
Vahey is decribed as a Native American, 5-foot-11, 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
A community notification meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Bob Oke Community Center at Long Lake Country Park, 5448 Long Lake Road SE.
Of the more than 21,000 sex offenders registered in Washington, 831 are registered with the KCSO as of Sept. 13.
Man arrested after police pursuit
A Port Orchard man, driving a stolen car, was arrested Sept. 15 after a police chase in South Kitsap.
Trooper Mark Hodgson, Washington State Patrol spokesman, said the man was driving a stolen 1998 Volvo S70 around 9 a.m. Sunday morning. The chase began after a Bremerton police officer attempted to pull over the man, but he refused to stop.
Hodgson said Bremerton officers stopped the pursuit near Charleston Beach Road and Highway 304.
WSP troopers and Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies picked up the pursuit as the man traveled south on State Highway 3. The man drove through Gorst at a high rate of speed, then turned onto Sunnyslope Road SW.
Hodgson said a trooper used his car during an pursuit intervention technique on the vehicle and it crashed and rolled onto a dirt embankment at Feigley Road SW near SW Old Clifton Road.
Hodgson said the man suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. After his release, the man was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding police officers.
Man arrested after jumping on roof
A man who was jumping on a roof and banging on the home was arrested Sept. 16 by Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
The homeowners reported that someone was jumping on the roof and banging on the house about 1:07 a.m. Monday in the 2300 block of Parkwood Drive in South Kitsap..
When deputies arrived they found the man hidding in the bushes near the home. He admitted to deputies he was on the roof and tried to get inside the home. The homeowners said they didn’t know the man.
He was arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail for residential burglary and a local warrant for driving with a suspended license.
Woman nabbed for forgery, theft
A 22-year-old Port Orchard woman was arrested Sept. 6 after she apparently stole a blank check and cashed it at a local bank.
The owner of a local recycling company reported the stolen bank check that the woman apparently cashed for $500 at a local bank.
Deputies went to the woman’s residence and questioned her about the check. She said her boyfriend gave her the check to cash. When deputies attempted to place her in handcuffs, the woman pulled away and began screaming
She was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for forgery, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $35,000.
Pump houses broken into
A Gig Harbor water service company reported Sept. 9 that several generators had been taken from pump houses in in Kitsap and Pierce counties.
The company reported that six pump houses have been broken into. One of the houses was located on Nelson Road.
