Charge levied against father in child assault case
The father of a 3-month-year-old girl has been charged with child assault, according to Kitsap County District Court records.
Colin Richard Arthur, 28, of Port Orchard, was charged with first-degree child assault on Nov. 15. He was arrested early Friday morning and booked into the Kitsap County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
According to charging papers, on Nov. 13 the infant was taken to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma with a serious head injury. Doctors told investigators the initial diagnosis was acute and chronic bilateral brain bleeds deemed non-accidental trauma consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The infant’s twin brother also was examined and initial X-rays showed he had a healing rib on his right side, but doctors were concerned about his brain scan and additional tests were planned.
According to court documents, Arthur’s wife told investigators that she left the infant girl with her husband while she went to a birthday party with her daughter on Nov. 4. She also provided investigators photos taken in September of the other twin infant with a severe bruise on his left leg and left side. Also, the wife said she took the sick infant girl to the doctor several times since Nov. 4.
Court records stated that Arthur confessed to investigators that he had violently shaken and tossed both infants down several times, including while he was drinking during the past month and a half.
