School district shuffles administrator lineup
The South Kitsap School District Board of Directors appointed several new members to its leadership team at last week’s meeting.
Shannon Thompson replaces Dan Whitford, who retired last month, as director of instructional services.
Thompson spent 10 years in the Curriculum and Instruction Department in the Central Kitsap School District and was the director of Educational Reinvention in SKSD’s District and School Improvement Department.
Scott Logan, who worked as transportation supervisor for the Lake Chelan School District and the president of the Washington Association for Pupil Transportation, is the new director of Transportation Services.
He replaces interim director Willa Werner.
Gail Gillis accepted the position as assistant principal of Orchard Heights Elementary School.
Gillis, who was dean and curriculum specialist at Ridgetop Junior High School in Silverdale, also has taught French and Spanish.
She replaces Jason Shdo, who left to become the principal at Sidney Glen Elementary School.
Laura Smith, who has been a teacher and learning specialist in CKSD for five years, was hired as the assistant principal at Sidney Glen Elementary School.
She replaces Bob Richardson, who took a position with the North Thurston School District.
Troy Tornow will be an assistant principal at South Kitsap High School.
He has 15 years of experience in education and previously was a teacher and dean for nine years in the White River School District.
Tornow replaces Esther Albertus, who took a leave of absence for the upcoming school year.
Dave Colombini, who previously sent eight years as principal at SKHS, returns to the district after two years as principal Kopachuck Middle School in Gig Harbor.
He will fill the position of assistant superintendent for school and family support, which was vacated by Dave LaRose, who was appointed the district’s superintendent earlier this spring.
Assistant superintendent Kurt Wagner has been promoted to deputy superintendent.
His new responsibilities include supervising the director of School and Family Support and integrating that department with Instructional Services.
