The September featured artist at the Sidney Art Gallery is Steve Abbott, a local artist with a life long love affair with boats and water.

Abbott was born in Edmond and graduated from Central Washington University with a degree in art education. He retired from Boeing as a manufacturing engineer.

Abbott and his wife live on a steel boat in Port Orchard.

Abbott is self-taught in watercolor, oils, colored pencil, pen and ink and airbrush. He has taught workshops in painting boats and reflections in watercolor and his paintings of classic boats of the Wooden Boat Marina on Lake Union and in Port Townsend have been very well received.

An artist’s reception for Abbott is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the gallery.

The show opens Sept. 2 and closes Sept. 28 with an artist’s reception at the Sidney Art Gallery, 202 Sidney Ave.

The Sidney Art Gallery and Museum, which is listed on the National and State Historic Registers, operates 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.
