September 26, 2008 · Updated 11:30 AM
Six Kitsap County veterans will be given a military funeral next week, after the Kitsap County Veterans Advisory Board took the initiative to provide a proper commemoration.
The six veterans died from 2002 to 2006.
Since that time their cremated remains were stored by Kitsap County Coroner Greg Sandstrom, who was unsuccessful in his effort to locate any relatives.
Four of the deceased were in the Navy, one was a Marine, and one served in the Army.
Three of the veterans lived in the Port Orchard area.
Daniel Leeds, 61, died in 2002.
Marine veteran Ron Losinger, 62, and Edward Howell (age not disclosed) died in 2006.
Jens Hanson, 64, was a resident of North Kitsap when he died in 2004.
Two of the veterans lived in the Bremerton area and died in 2004 — David Hagen, 54, of Tracyton and John Jay Knox Sheldon, 77, of Bremerton.
The public is invited to join the motorcade that will depart Givens Community Center in Port Orchard, at 10:30 a.m on Oct. 2, with an expected noon arrival at Tahoma National Cemetery near Kent.
