Whatcom Creek will close to fishing

December 2, 2012 · 12:43 PM

Action: Closes Whatcom Creek.

Effective dates: Dec. 10.

Species affected: All species of fish.

Location: Whatcom Creek, from the mouth to Woburn Street Bridge.

Reasons for action: The Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery programs in recent years have had difficulty securing sufficient eggs from returning hatchery winter steelhead to meet basin production goals. As in past years, closure of the fishery is necessary to collect sufficient fish to meet egg-take needs.

Other information: When the combined broodstock needs of Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery are met, the fishery will revert to seasons as listed in the Sport fishing Rules 2012/2013 pamphlet edition, FISHING IN WASHINGTON.
