Bremerton punker running write-in campaign for mayor

Bremerton native, frontman of the local punk band Neutralboy, puts hat in the ring.
Amidst the race between Patty Lent and Will Maupin for Bremerton mayor, another write-in campaign has surfaced.
The off-beat, aesthetically DIY campaign is gaining traction in the city’s counterculture by virtue of posters popping up in the windows of town pubs and punk rock venues.
The Bremelogger — a Bremerton cutlure, food and politics blogger — noticed the signs back in August asking “Who is this guy?"
“I thought everyone in B-town knew this man” a commentor posted.
The candidate is a 30-something Bremerton native Mike Moen.
He was born in Bremerton, grew up in Bremerton and has spent most of his adult life in Bremerton — other than time spent on the road with various touring bands. He’s somewhat of an ambassador for the Bremerton underground. You might recognize him as the indefatigable frontman of the Bremerton punk band, Neutralboy.
“I didn’t come from money, so I don’t want your money,” the candidate writes at his minimalist campaign Web site. “I will not ask for donations because I will do this campaign from the streets — as a person, a poor person, a real person.”
He’s running on the platforms of “re-pioneering” Bremerton, creating a more transparent government and invoking ardent support for hydroelectricity and arts education.
