3 SK teens injured in Lake Flora rollover crash
By KAITLIN STROHSCHEIN
Taken from incident reports by Kitsap County Sheriff's Deputies: Three 18-year-old South Kitsap men were injured following a rollover crash near the 3800 Block of Southwest Lake Flora Road, reported at 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday. Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputies don’t believe that alcohol or drugs factored into the crash, but speed did. The skid marks from the crash went on for 321 feet, which means “that car was freaking moving before (the driver) lost control,” according to Deputy Scott Wilson, a public information officer for the sheriff’s department. The driver lost control of the 1999 Mercedes sedan as it rounded a corner heading westbound on Southwest Lake Flora Road. The car rotated clockwise as it left the roadway onto the north shoulder. Then, it jumped off the pavement onto the shoulder of the road, collided with an embankment, and skimmed along a tree line. It hit an object like a root or tree branch, which “tripped” the vehicle, causing it to stop it’s forward momentum suddenly and roll to the side. It came to a stop on the westbound fog line, facing the same direction it had originally been traveling, on the same side of the road. The driver of the car reported the collision at 12:35 a.m., and Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene about seven minutes later, with fire and aid crews from South Kitsap Fire and Rescue. The passenger in the back seat of the vehicle was taken to Harrison Medical Center with lacerations and a head injury.
