Man charged with child rape for alleged abuse of daughter's friend

Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 37-year-old South Kitsap man who allegedly raped his daughter’s 10-year-old friend on numerous occasions over the course of three years.

Richard G. Conroy is accused of having anal, vaginal and oral sex with the victim during sleepovers at his house. He also allegedly watched pornographic videos and used sex toys, oils and lubricants with her.

The girl didn’t tell her parents until recently, she said, because she was afraid of Conroy, who is a neighbor.

Deputies arrested him Monday at 4:10 p.m. on two counts of first-degree rape of a child.

At a hearing Tuesday in Kitsap County District Court, Conroy's attorney requested that the court set his bail at $100,000, given his lack of other criminal history since 1990, other than a reckless driving incident in 2008.

Judge Jeffrey J. Jahns set bail at $500,000, and issued a no-contact order banning Conroy from being around anyone under 18, including his own 14-year-old and 8-year-old daughters.

The judge also ordered Conroy not to communicate with the victim’s family, “directly or indirectly through third parties,” he said.
