A 36-year-old Port Orchard man was arrested for DUI and faces a possible charge of vehicular assault after the vehicle he was driving hit a woman crossing a street Friday night.
The 53-year-old victim was walking across Jackson Avenue in the marked crosswalk shortly after 8 p.m. Friday when she was struck by a 1999 Dodge Durango making a left turn from Lund Avenue onto northbound Jackson, according to Deputy Scott Wilson of the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office.
The woman was treated at the scene and then transported by a South Kitsap Fire & Rescue medic unit to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Tacoma. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, Wilson said.
The deputy investigating the incident noticed that the driver seemed impaired by alcohol, and he was processed for DUI, Wilson said. The man was booked at Kitsap County Jail for suspicion of vehicular assault, and his bail was set at $150,000.
