Advisory committee to discuss raising tolls on Tacoma Narrows Bridge

January 9, 2012 · Updated 2:13 PM

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee will meet Wednesday to begin discussing a possible toll increase for the bridge.

The nine-member advisory committee appointed by the governor will meet at the Gig Harbor Civic Center at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Washington State Department of Transportation will present traffic and revenue forecasts for the Narrows Bridge.

A new tolling rate, expected to be between $1-2 more per vehicle, could take effect as early as June 1, said WSDOT's director of toll division, Craig Stone. A recommendation for a new toll rate from the advisory committee must be submitted to the Washington State Transportation Commision on March 20.

Amy Iglo-Matsuno, owner of Amy's on the Bay restaurant in Port Orchard, is a member of the committee.

The public is invited to attend Wednesday's meeting to learn more about the proposed change. Citizens also are encouraged to participate during a public hearing on tolls Feb. 8 at the Gig Harbor Civic Center.
