A man killed in a crash Monday when his pickup drifted off a road in South Kitsap was driving right in front of his wife, the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office reported.

Trenton C. Bennett, 36, of Vaughn, Wash., was southbound on Carney Lake Road near the Pierce County line on Monday afternoon while speaking on a Bluetooth headset to his wife, who was following in another vehicle.

According to the report, Bennett' wife said that shortly after they ended their conversation, she watched as his 2006 Ford pickup went off the road and into a ditch.

Bennett, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck as it overturned, and the truck then rolled over and came to rest with its wheels on top of him. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office reported.
