House will debate, vote on marriage equality bill today
February 8, 2012 · 8:13 AM
The Washington State House of Representatives will debate and vote on the Marriage Equality Act (SB 6239) starting at 1 p.m. today.
Live streaming of the debate can be viewed on tvw.org.
The state Senate has already approved the Marriage Equality Act, and there are enough supporters in the House to pass the bill.
With House approval, the bill would go to Gov. Chris Gregoire, who had requested the Legislature pass a marriage equality bill this session, to sign it into law. That would make Washington the seventh state where same-sex marriage is legal.
Same-sex marriage opponents have said they will launch a petition drive to put the issue up for a statewide vote in November.
