Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue fight home fire in Bremerton

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 6000 block of Pahrmann Place NW, Bremerton today, Oct. 18, at 12:46 p.m.

Upon arrival firefighters observed heavy smoke coming from the single family home. Entry was made and the fire was extinguished.

The homeowner reports she had returned home from shopping and noticed what looked like smoke around the roofline of her home. When she opened the front door there was heavy, black smoke. She quickly shut the door and called 911 before grabbing one of her dogs. There were three additional dogs inside that she was unable to safely get to and unfortunately they did not survive.

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen area. There is fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the structure. It's not considered suspicious, but the county fire marshal has been called to determine the cause.

The battalion chief on scene stated that by shutting her front door she most likely saved her home from additional damage. Leaving the door open would have allowed additional air into the home, therefore fueling the fire.

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue was assisted by units from Bremerton Fire Department and Navy Federal Fire.
