Victim says burglary was no ‘Halloween prank’

A pair of Port Orchard men have been charged in Kitsap County District Court with residential burglary, something the men tried to write-off to cops as a “Halloween prank.”
Adam Eugene Doty, 29, and Jarrod Allen Carter, 24, have both been charged after being arrested at 6:32 a.m. Sunday at 3967 Lovell Street in Port Orchard.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to that location following a 911 call reporting a burglary in progress. Once on the scene, officers found Carter and Doty across the street from the residence preparing to leave in a vehicle belonging to Carter.
A police report states that both men admitted that they entered the victim’s residence “but claimed the victim was a friend and the burglary was a ‘Halloween prank.’ ”
The victim, though, didn’t see it that way. He told police that he recognized Carter “as a friend of a friend,” but said he wasn’t friends with him or Doty. Signs of forced entry were found on the back door of the home and the victim identified a TV located in the rear of Carter’s vehicle as having been stolen from his home along with other property and documents.
A police report notes that a search of the vehicle also turned up stolen mail belonging to the Brass Ring Salon sitting on the passenger seat of Carter’s car.
