Commissioners rezone proposed racetrack site

The Kitsap County commissioners on Monday repealed the zoning action that was to pave the way for a local NASCAR speedway, removing the Industrial Multi-Purpose Recreational Area (IMPRA) designation.

The initial action, which took place in April 2005, allowed the incorporation of the 940-acre proposed NASCAR site into the South Kitsap Industrial Area (SKIA). At that time, it was intended to accommodate the possibility of building the track.

Consequently, anti-racetrack group Citizens for Healthy Economic Choices in Kitsap (CHECK) filed a lawsuit against the county challenging the action. The action
