Filing window closes, more decide to run

The 2007 elections heated up Thursday afternoon and Friday in South Kitsap as more political hopefuls made late applications.

Freelance writer and former counselor Kathleen Dolan-Bowes tossed in a last-minute bid for mayor, following Kitsap Business Journal editor Lary Coppola, who announced in May, and assessor and long-time Kiwanis Club member Tom Saunders, who filed last week.

Dolan-Bowes also serves on the Kitsap County Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council and sought the Port Orchard City Council appointment filled by Robert Putaansuu last year.

Dolan-Bowes, 65, is putting together her platform and researching the position and related issues this week. Dolan-Bowes said her first step is learning.
