A South Kitsap toddler drowned Monday evening after appar-ently crawling into a planter pot while playing at her house, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Spokesman Scott Wilson said that South Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded to the girl’s home on the 12000 block of William Heights Lane SW shortly around 6:50 p.m. after the two-and-a-half year-old’s father called 911.

Wilson said the father told responding deputies that his daughter was playing outside on their five-acre property while under his supervision.

However, he was distracted for a period of time and lost sight of her.

The father then searched the property, locating the girl inside of a large planter pot that had about eight inches of water at the bottom.

Wilson said the father attempt-ed CPR and called 911.

After an ambulance arrived, the girl was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, but was pronounced dead after arrival, according to the Pierce County Coroner’s Office.

Wilson said detectives investigated the incident, but “it’s looking more and more like an accident, and there it nothing pointing to anything otherwise.”
