Ellis off to all-star game

Never mind that the Victoria Salmon Kings headed into last weekend in a swoon, having won just three of their previous 15 games. Now the teamÂ’s last line of defence has been recognized by the ECHL.

Rookie pro goaltender Julien Ellis, 20, who has faced a league-high total of nearly 40 shots per game, will represent the team at the ECHL all-star weekend Jan. 16-17 in Boise.

Since he was assigned to the Kings from the Vancouver CanucksÂ’ American Hockey League farm team in Manitoba, Ellis has been a standout on an otherwise mediocre team. As of Dec. 28 he had posted a 7-10 record with a 4.08 goals against average and had an .897 save percentage.
