Two power poles that went down Tuesday near South Kitsap High School resulted in a school cancellation on Wednesday.

South Kitsap School District Superintendent Bev Cheney sent out an e-mail at 6:30 a.m. canceling classes at the high school as well as at the Community Transition Program because Puget Sound Energy projected that power wouldn’t restored until 10 a.m. at the earliest.

According to a PSE spokesman, the lights eventually came back on at 11:15 a.m.

SKSD community relations director Aimee Warthen said the district left phone messages with high school students and staff, the district’s Web site and alerted various media outlets to relay the message.

She said there aren’t plans to make up the missed day, since the school year ends next Wednesday.
