"A 15-year-old girl stabbed another 15-year-old female, who she claimed not to know until that day, after completing two contentious phone conversations and a long walk March 23 in the South Kitsap area, authorities said. That night, Kitsap County Sheriff deputies arrested her on suspicion of first-degree assault. She pleaded guilty seven days later to second-degree assault, which is a felony, in Juvenile Court. She was sentenced April 13 to serve at least 15 weeks or a maximum of 36 weeks in a juvenile rehabilitation center. The length of the sentence will depend on evaulations by authorities. The night of the stabbing, medics airlifted the victim to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from the South Kitsap High School parking lot. Doctors later released her, and officials reported her in satisfactory condition.Sheriff deputies arrested the girl without incident. She told them she didn't remember stabbing the victim. She said she threw the knife in some bushes near where the stabbing occurred, but deputies said the weapon hasn't been recovered. It's unfortunate that conflicts can escalate over issues that, in the grand scheme of things, seem trivial, said Mike Davis, chief of detectives for the Sheriff Department. This type of (violent) crime among girls isn't real common, but it does happen, said detective Jim Harris. Let's just say I am not surprised, even though it is unusual. On March 23, investigators said, the girl finished an emotional phone conversation with her boyfriend, in which he said some other girls claimed she was cheating on him. She later spoke on the phone with the girls who reportedly talked about her. The girlfriend told deputies the girls threatened her during the conversation, and she worried they would attack her.Scared, the girlfriend tucked away a dagger with a four to six-inch blade for protection and later set off for Larch Lane, where she met her boyfriend and asked him to not believe the rumors, authorities said. The girls were there, and witnesses said they didn't appreciate what the girlfriend said about them, according to authorities. One of the females punched the girlfriend. A scuffle ensued, during which the victim was stabbed in her ribs on the left side, deputies said. The name of the assailant was made available to the Independent, but it was not published in keeping with the newspaper's policy to withhold names of juveniles in most crime and courts coverage."
