"A 19-year-old South Kitsap man died Nov. 11 when his 1994 Honda Civic sped off View Park Road and hit a tree, breaking the car in half.Police think speed might have been a factor in the accident.Kitsap County Sheriff's deputies and Fire District 7 emergency crews responded around 9:25 p.m. and pronounced Jeffrey L. Lillybridge dead at the scene of the accident. Lillybridge was wearing a seat belt.A 19-year-old passenger who was ejected from the vehicle was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for multiple trauma injuries. Deputies were not able to tell if he had also been wearing a seat belt. The passenger was upgraded from critical condition to serious condition at Harborview Nov. 12, but was still in serious condition Nov. 13 with head and spine injuries.Lillybridge was driving westbound on View Park Road heading down a straightaway that descends from a crest when the vehicle apparently veered to the right and left the roadway. Police were unable to tell why he swerved off the road. The Civic crashed into some trees and broke apart behind the front seats, separating the front portion of the car from the back portion.Though there was some speculation Lillybridge was trying to avoid a cat in the road, police at the scene could not substantiate that. The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the accident.
