Another Level 3 sex offender settles in Olalla
June 12, 2008 · Updated 10:37 AM
South Kitsaps fifth level-three sex offender moved to Olalla in April and registered with the Kitsap County Sheriffs Department May 14.
John M. Obert had previously been living in King County since his release from prison. He currently lives in the 14000 block of Bandix Road in Olalla.
Obert has served time twice for sex-related crimes, both of which involved pre-adolescent children.
In 1975, Obert was convicted on one count of child molestation for sexually molesting a seven-year-old girl.
In 1991, Obert was convicted on two counts of child molestation for sexually molesting an eight-year-old girl. He later admitted to molesting the girls six-year-old sister.
While in prison, Obert was a member of the sex offender treatment program but was kicked out for not participating satisfactorily and for not making the recommended changes to his behavior.
Sheriffs officials distribute information concerning level three sex offenders because experts have judged the offenders likely to re-offend. The purpose of notification is to educate people and encourage them to take extra precautions, particularly if they or others living near a convicted offender match the type of victim the offender regularly targets.
The Sheriffs Office will be holding a community notification meeting regarding Obert at 7 p.m. June 4 at Olalla Elementary School, located at 6100 SE Denny Bond Boulevard. For more information, contact Detective Lori Blankenship at 360-337-5615.
