June 12, 2008 · Updated 12:30 PM
A 22-year-old Bremerton man was charged on Wednesday with molesting a Port Orchard girl, according to Kitsap County Superior Court documents.
Darryl Diaz was arrested Sept. 6 by the Port Orchard Police Department after a detective was contacted by an interviewer with the countys Special Assault Unit.
In the recorded interview, the 3-and-a-half-year-old girl, who lives in Port Orchard with her mother, testified that Diaz had removed her panties and fondled her.
The victim said that the inappropriate touching had occurred on more than one occasion, at both a friends house and in her own bedroom.
After speaking with the interviewer and obtaining a DVD of the victims testimony, the POPD detective contacted the suspects parole officer and learned Diaz was scheduled for an interview that day.
When Diaz arrived at his parole officers office, he was taken into custody without incident and booked into Kitsap County Jail.
Diaz pleaded not guilty Wednesday to one count of first-degree child molestation.
If found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Currently, he is being held in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
His trial is scheduled for Oct. 24.
