Parents of students enrolled in the South Kitsap School District (SKSD) have always had the right to see how the district spends their money. But now they have the opportunity to do more than sit back and watch.

SKSD is currently seeking community members to serve on the Citizens’ Budget Review Committee (CBRC), a volunteer group of citizens appointed by the school board.

“We’re looking for people of all backgrounds, but particularly seek volunteers with professional business and finance experience,” said Terri Patton, assistant superintendent for business and support services, who also facilitates the committee.

Members are responsible for studying budgets for the school district’s programs and providing recommendations to the school board. In addition to gaining insight about district operations, CBRC members also have the opportunity to influence long-range budget planning.

Citizens interested must be residents of South Kitsap, be committed to a two- to four-year term and have some experience with business and finance.

To download an application form and view a tentative meeting schedule for the 2005-06 school year, visit www.skitsap.wednet.edu and click on “CBRC.”

Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 18. For questions, or to request an application through the mail, call Denise Johnsen at (360) 874-7013.
