Attacker charged with raping two teens

A 35-year-old former South Kitsap man accused of attacking a 15-year-old girl at Marcus Whitman Junior High School this week was charged Friday in that assault and for raping another teenage girl.
Samuel D. Woodward, a former resident of Sunnyslope, pleaded not guilty to five counts of first-degree rape of a child in Kitsap County Superior Court. The victim in those crimes is a 15-year-old family member that the Kitsap County Prosecutors Office alleges he has molested repeatedly since she was 6 years old.
None of this is true, said a shackled Woodward to Superior Court Judge Anna Laurie, who informed the defendant that he was also charged with three counts against a second 15-year-old victim, which included first-degree rape and burglary, along with second-degree assault.
Woodward was arrested Wednesday afternoon after the second victim reported he allegedly attacked her while she was walking to a portable classroom at Marcus Whitman Junior High. She told police that he grabbed her by the wrist, kicked her and hit her in the leg with a silver, pointed-end weapon that tore her pants.
The suspect fled on foot and was later arrested by Kitsap County deputies. According to the probable cause statement filed by the Sheriffs Office, the suspect was arrested three weeks ago for allegedly breaking into the victims home and sexually assaulting her.
Prior to that attack, the victim had filed an anti-harassment order against Woodward.
During interviews with a member of the prosecutors special assault unit, the victim revealed that she knew the suspect had been molesting her friend, who is related to the suspect.
She said the girl told her that the suspect had forced her to have sex with him several times between the ages of 6 and 10.
According to the prosecutors office, the second teen said that Woodward had first raped her in 1997, coming into her bedroom and hitting her over the head with a closed fist, then cutting her pants and underwear off with a knife.
She said he continued to force her to have sex on at least ten other occasions, sometimes at his former home in Sunnyslope.
Woodward is currently being held in Kitsap County Jail under $500,000 bail. His trial is scheduled for July 12.
