Rate increases for West Sound Utility District

March 18, 2013 · Updated 9:09 AM

West Sound Utility District will impose a rate increase on water and sewer effective April 1.

During the Feb. 19 meeting, commissioners passed a resolution for the rate increases that calls for 6- percent increase in water rates and a 3-percent increase in sewer.

These rate adjustments will be reflected in the customer’s April utility bill. The residential-base charge will increase from $12.75 to $13.50 per month, and sewer rate will increase from $50 to $51.50 per month.

Commissioners have not increased residential water rates since 2008 and sewer rates have remained at the same level over the past three years, according to Sue Fowler, customer service manager.

She said the board examined the water/sewer utility cost and customer rates, and it was determined that a rate was necessary to offset the decline in water usage and to keep up with costs and inflation.
