Two seats up on South Kitsap School Board

Two seats on the South Kitsap School District board of directors are up for election this fall.

Candidates must file between May 13-17 at the Kitsap County Auditor’s Office Elections Division at the Kitsap County Administration Building, 619 Division St., in Port Orchard.

Up for election in November are the District 3 seat, currently held by Director Christopher Lemke, and the District 4 director seat held by Kathryn Simpson, who will not seek re-election.

To be legally eligible, a candidate must be a registered voter and a resident of the director area for which he or she files.

The two districts up for election are:

• District 3: Olalla, Mullenix, Long Lake and Bethel-Burley.

• District 4: Lund, Bethel and Parkwood.

Detailed information regarding the responsibilities of school board directors is available from the Washington State School Directors’ Association. All seats are four-year terms.

The City of Port Orchard will be hosting a workshop for individuals interested in running for public office on Wednesday, May 8.

The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at the Port Orchard City Hall from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
