Manchester community invited to design workshop for the stormwater park

MANCHESTER — Kitsap County Public Works invites community members to a design workshop to discuss the Manchester Stormwater Park, scheduled to begin construction in 2014 and 2015.

The workshop is slated from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Manchester Public Library, 8067 E. Main St.

The project will add high-capacity stormwater treatment for the area and create a new stormwater park with a community commons area at Colchester and Main.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for the community to learn about and discuss design alternatives for the community commons area of the stormwater park. County staff and representatives will provide a presentation on the entire project, and display potential design options for the commons area.

Following the presentation, participants will take part in an exercise to provide their comments and additional ideas, which will help guide county officials to the next step of narrowing down options for voting by the community.

This meeting is the first step in the public input process for this project.

“Hearing from people about their needs and preferences for community amenities will help us to move to the next phase of project design,” said Chris May, Kitsap County Surface and Stormwater Management program manager. “The county is interested in designing features that will enhance the community and support the area’s stormwater treatment needs.”

An additional public feedback opportunity will follow the workshop after the final options are determined.
