Public invited to comment on proposed regional transportation plan

OLYMPIA – Between now and the end of the year, the public has the opportunity to weigh in on the future of transportation on the Olympic Peninsula.

The Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization (PRTPO) invites the public to comment on its draft Regional Transportation Plan by Dec. 31. The document is also available in the reference section at local libraries across the area.

The Regional Transportation Plan is designed to promote and guide efficient and sustainable transportation systems on the Olympic and Kitsap peninsulas. It was developed as a shared vision of how strategic transportation planning can create a better future.

The goals and policies outlined in the plan create a framework from which detailed transportation decisions can be made at all levels of government. The plan highlights 20 policies that guide four aspects of transportation planning and implementation: transportation relationships, system management, system components and process.

The PRTPO develops the plan for Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson and Mason counties. A voluntary association of cities, towns, counties, ports, tribes, transit agencies and major employers, the group works together to develop plans for meeting the future transportation needs of the region.
