Councilwoman not seeking to fill Angel's vacancy

Port Orchard Councilwoman Cindy Lucarelli said Monday she has decided not to become a candidate to fill the vacancy left by 26th District State Rep. Jan Angel, who won the district’s state senate seat last month.

“With the process being what it was and given the timing in my life, my priority is to pour my energy into fulfilling the commitments I've already made,” Lucarelli said. “I wish the candidates my best and will support the one eventually chosen. I remain grateful for the consideration.”

Last month, Lucarelli filed an application with a vetting committee to be a candidate.

The Republican precinct committee officers from the 26th Legislative District are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Givens Community Center’s Kitsap Room in Port Orchard.

Angel will be sworn in as state senator later this month.
