Port Orchard resident among 12 winners in in historic Mega Millions drawing

OLYMPIA – After Dec. 18’s highly anticipated Mega Millions drawing for $636 million — the second largest jackpot in United States history — 12 Washington residents, including one resident from Port Orchard, won the $5,000 prize.

The other winners included two residents each from Seattle and Marysville, Grandview, Kent, Pullman, Redmond, Puyallup, Custer, Marysville and Everett. Each player won the $5,000 prize by matching four numbers and the Mega Ball number correctly. The odds of winning this prize are 1 in 740,000.

When people in Washington state win playing the Mega Millions game, others in Washington benefit, too. Washington’s Lottery players spend their winnings in a variety of ways. Whether it’s a savings account for their children’s education, a new car, or a non-profit contribution, winners often spend their money locally, boosting Washington’s economy.

Additionally, proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing scholarships to college students statewide.
