New court security procedures in Gig Harbor

GIG HARBOR — New procedures have been implemented to improve court security at the Gig Harbor Municipal Court.

Beginning this month, an armed police officer will be screening all individuals entering the courtroom. The detection of prohibited objects will be accomplished by the use of electronic wands, pat-down searches, and bag searches.

Purses and briefcases are allowed in the courtroom, but are subject to search. Backpacks are not allowed.

Individuals with weapons or other prohibited items will be refused entry and directed to immediately leave the court building.

The city asks for the public’s patience during this transition process as some delays may be experienced when entering the courtroom and allow extra time for security searches.

The courtroom is located at the Gig Harbor Civic Center, 3510 Grandview St.
