The Federal Aviation Administration, along with the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the crash of a small plane June 19 at a private air field in rural South Kitsap.

The accident was reported about 5:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of Mullenix Road.

The single-engine plane flipped over into a wooded area near the Vaughn Ranch Air Field and the pilot escaped minor injuries, reported South Kitsap Fire and Rescue Duty Chief Mark Yergeau.

The pilot, who appeared uninjured, was walking around after the crash. He was transported to an area hospital for evaluation of possible minor injuries.

According to the FAA, the plane is registered to a resident of Ketchikan, Alaska.
