Fire destroys Southworth home
The cause of an Aug. 18 fire that destroyed at home in the 4200 block of Ridgecrest Way SE in Southworth is still under investigation, reported Tina Turner of the Kitsap County Fire Marshal’s Office.
South Kitsap Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jeff Faucett reported that units were dispatched to the fire at about 9:07 a.m. and citizens as far away as Vashon Island called 911 to report the blaze.
“Firefighters quickly pulled hose lines and started to extinguish the fire from the outside of the structure,” said Faucett. “Hose lines were also set up to prevent the spread of the fire down the bluff as well as the house to the south of this residence.”
He said it took crews about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control and additional off-duty and volunteer firefighters were called to scene because of the warm weather conditions. Firefighters also were called in to staff the district’s fire stations for additional 911 calls.
A SKFR chaplain and the American Red Cross assisted the three occupants who were displaced by the blaze.
There were no injuries, but a firefighter was transported to a local hospital for a heat-related illness and was later released.
