A 23-year-old Bremerton man walking along State-Route 3 just south of Shelton was struck and killed early Friday by an unknown driver that left the scene, the Washington State Patrol reported.

According to the trooper investigating the scene, the victim was walking northbound on SR-3 — less than a quarter of a mile south of Shelton — when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle around 1:50 a.m. Aug. 22.

While troopers investigated the scene, the roadway was blocked for more than three hours.

The victim was declared dead at the scene, and investigators believe intoxicating substances were involved.
