Labor Day weekend activities on both sides of bay

The final three-day weekend before school begins is filled with activities in Bremerton and Port Orchard.

Bremerton will host the 25th annual Blackberry Festival on Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 on the Bremerton Boardwalk on Second Street.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

The event is sponsored by the Bremerton Rotary Foundation.

On Aug. 30, the festival kicks off with a car show at the Bremerton National Airport from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. At 9 a.m. the Fly-in and Young Eagles Flights are set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration for the Berry Fun Run — at Sixth and Pacific — is from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The Chief Select 5K Run will begin at 8:45 a.m. at Fourth and Pacific, followed by the Berry Run at 9:50 a.m. The Kids Berry Dash is set for 10:30 a.m.

At 10 a.m., food and craft vendors will open their booths, along with the Children’s Stage for live music and magic shows. There will be a new car display, pony rides, bubble fun, beer garden, bouncy house, climbing wall and other activities.

On Sept. 1, the Kitsap Charities 5K Walk gets underway at 9 a.m.

The foot ferry between Port Orchard and Bremerton is every half hour and the price is $2 per person.

On Aug. 31,  the fourth annual Taste of Port Orchard is slated from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Port Orchard Marina Park gazebo.

The public will have a chance to taste various foods from local eateries.

Don Ryan, Port Orchard Bay Street Association president, said the organization will present the “Darryl Award” for the most original dish.

Some of this year’s participants include MoonDogs Too, The Bay Street Bistro, Carter’s Chocolates, Red Dog Saloon, Wig Wam Pub, Tommy C’s, One Ten Lounge, Central Dock and Bay Street Meat Company.

Tickets are $1 to $5 for food.

Live music will be provided by Tammy Frost and the Thrillbillies from 12-2 p.m. and Greenbriar from 3-6 p.m. at the gazebo. There also will be children’s activities.
