Port Orchard woman killed in Saturday wreck
August 25, 2009 · Updated 11:01 AM
A 51-year-old Port Orchard woman was killed Saturday night when the car she was riding in crashed near Manchester, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
Patricia Heaton, 51, was the passenger in a black, 2008 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling eastbound on Southworth Drive around 10:15 p.m. Aug. 22.
According to investigators, the Sonata, driven by the victim’s 49-year-old husband, was headed downhill in a curve just east of Yukon Harbor Road when it went off the south side of the road and into a ditch. It then struck a culvert, rolled onto its roof, and slid to a stop in the westbound lane.
The passenger was partially ejected and died at the scene. The driver was seriously injured and transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma by South Kitsap Fire and Rescue.
Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
Investigators believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the collision. Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call Deputy M. Shannon at 337-4634.
