The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a meeting next week in South Kitsap to inform the public of a Level III sex offender moving into the area.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Arnold Jeffery Vahey, 54, is scheduled to be released from prison on Oct. 5, and has notified authorities that he plans to live on the 6000 block of Clover Valley Road.

He is described as Native American, 5-11, 190-punds, with black hair and brown eyes.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Vahey was convicted in 1985 of burglary after entering a residence and assaulting one of two women who lived in the house.

In 1988, he was convicted of rape after sexually assaulting and strangling a teenage girl who was out walking. During that incarceration, he reportedly declined to participate in sex offender treatment.

He returned to prison in December of 2007 after failing to register as a sex offender.

The community meeting for Vahey’s release is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Bob Oke Community Center at Long Lake County Park.
